Cosmos Chullo Knitting Pattern PDF

$6.00

An adult-sized earflap hat knitting design that’s worked up quickly using two contrasting, 100g skeins of chunky / Aran weight yarn. Two sets of charts are included - Star motif and Flower motif - to cover everyone on your list. The Cosmos Chullo is knit primarily using traditional Fair Isle / Norwegian stranded knitting technique, with attached I-cord trim around the bottom and an optional I-cord with a tassel on top.

SIZE: Fits the average adult head. 20” / 51 cm finished hat circumference, when knit to given stitch gauge. Knitting at a tighter gauge, using thinner yarn and / or smaller needles will produce a smaller hat; knitting at a looser gauge, using thicker yarn and / or larger needles will produce a larger hat.

GAUGE: 18 stitches and 20 rows over 4” / 10cm in stranded stockinette stitch. Hat is intentionally knit at a gauge that’s tighter than the yarn label’s gauge to produce an extra-warm, durable hat with well-defined color work.

YARN: Two contrasting 100g skeins of Madelinetosh “MadTosh Triple Twist TML” chunky / heavy Aran weight 100% superwash merino wool yarn, 130 yards / 118 meters. Star version uses 1 skein of “Dirty Panther” + 1 skein of “Silver Fox”. Flower version uses 1 skein of “Coquette Deux” + 1 skein of “Silver Fox”.

NEEDLES: For looser knitters, US #8 / 5.0mm for the main needle and US #6 / 4.0mm for the trim. For tighter knitters, US #9 / 5.50mm for the main needle and US #7 / 4.50mm for the trim. As always, you’ll want to use whatever main needle gives you your targeted gauge.
