The Gentle Hat is knit in classic Fair Isle technique, starting with beautifully blended, corrugated ribbing at the base, featuring lively, short-repeat Fair Isle bands through the main section and ending with delightfully-shaped colorwork motifs all the way to the very top. GAUGE: 32 sts x 32 rows = 4” / 10cm in stranded stockinette stitch.
NEEDLES: Ribbing: US size 1½/ 2.5mm. Main: US size 2½/ 3.0mm. These are only suggestions! Use whatever size needles give you the correct gauge!
YARN: Seven different colors are used. The original was knit with one 50g ball of each of seven colors of Dale Alpakka, a sport weight alpaca yarn which is no longer available in North America. Use your favorite sport weight alpaca or merino yarns for your own, gorgeous take on this design.
