Ladies’ Fair Isle / Norwegian style knitted mittens design worked in two colors throughout. Two sizes: 8” palm circumference, to fit the average, adult female hand; 9” palm circumference, to fit an extra large, adult female hand.
GAUGE: For the 8” version: 36 sts and 38 rows = 4” / 10cm; for the 9” version: 32 sts and 34 rows = 4” / 10cm. Work either gauge in stranded stockinette stitch.
NEEDLES: For the 8” version: US size 1 / 2.25mm; for the 9” version: US size 2 / 2.50mm. Use whatever size needles you need to obtain the given gauge.
YARN: The red and white samples shown were knit in O-Wool Classic 2-ply, 50g skein = 198 yds / 181 m using one skein for each of the two colors. There was more than enough of the white, but only a few inches of the red (background color) were unused. O-Wool Classic 2-ply has since been discontinued. Not every 50g ball of fingering weight wool provides as much yardage as Classic 2-ply did. So, if you plan to substitute with another fingering weight wool yarn, I’d recommend getting 50g of the motif (white) color and 75g of the background (red) color.
